A Montessori decided to expand their early childhood and universal pre-k center from one to two sites. BOLT Architecture was retained to renovate and convert the use of the rear quadrant of a former paper-mill/office building to an education facility for children between the ages of 2 – 6 years.
The proposal included the 4,500 Sq Ft construction area and a budget of $450,000. The design was inspired and informed by the youthfulness and exuberance of Montessori-style education. The design emphasizes texture and social development. The space was divided into 4 classrooms, a welcoming area for parents, two administrative offices and a staff pantry with kitchenette. The challenge to this project included soil noted for hazardous material.
